started a new production this morning. easily the most "professional" sounding thing to date. looking to have a new EP completed by the end of october. 5-6 songs.
this fall is going to be awesome. EP is basically done and just needs to be exported. lots of new songs. i am playing a show on October 2nd. it is a Michael Jackson tribute show at Boston University. i will be playing an ambient organic mess of a tribute to the King of Pop. mark your calendars and book your flights.
50th post, this site has been dead for a while. my computer screen died so i've been kind of screwed and unable to properly work on stuff. it's almost done, just gotta finish track 3. started some new songs. got a new computer today. savant mondays are going very well. i had to dj with a tv screen last night because my monitor didnt work. fun times.
Savant Project - June 8th - CAMDEN CD/EP release show. it's going to be epic. ear drums will be exploded.
this EP almost done and i am really excited about it. lately i've been going to sleep at 10:30pm and waking up at 7am to do work/make music. it feels refreshing.
wighnomy brothers last night ruled. new song is coming along nicely. its warm out. weekend. modeselektor. death star monday at savant. good times all around.
so this remix is close to being done. i just want to add a bass guitar part and maybe some strings and it's all set.
last night i rushed home from being out in order to try to get down some ideas i had in my head. i haven't touched music in the past week and i had all these pent up ideas i just needed to get out. i sat in front of my computer for about 3 hours and got nothing. it's quite a frustrating feeling and i was really excited about trying to finish some things or add parts to various things. i've noticed i tend to work in random bursts. i finished a new track recently that took me all of like 3 days, yet i have stuff i've been toying with for over a month or two now that i can't see to get right or finish. i guess i cant really force it and when that moment of inspiration hits, i'm sure it will all work out.
the first time i heard this song, i was using the bathroom at cole's house at like 2am. i heard the lovely vocals floating in the air as a heavy beat pounded underneath and i was hooked. i flushed immediately and then ran out into the living room because i NEEDED to know what this song was. i guess i'm like 10 years too late or something but i think this remix is beautiful.
started a new song by accident. a mouse just ran next to my foot while i was sitting here. i hate this apartment. going to savant project to party and have a good time.
so i had two pretty great experiences lately. i saw simian mobile disco at the paradise. it's been over a year since the last time i saw them and they've only gotten better. they way they buildup and deconstruct their tracks was pretty incredible to watch. granted i think they are doing everything running off Live, but it still sounded damn good. then last night i saw "Speaking in Code" which i have been waiting to see every since i saw the trailer way over a year and a half ago. the movie is all about techno and follows a bunch of writers/djs/musicians as they try to find their place in the world while still being involved with the musical culture they love. it was funny/heartbreaking and it made me want to go home and do nothing but make new tracks all night. but instead i went to make it new and got drunk and danced. oh well. school is over for a while so i'm hoping to do nothing but make new stuff/finish old stuff and finish this EP.
is coming along. i really wasnt liking it this morning but i added some stuff, tweaked some knobs and ate 2 hamburgers and now its growing on me. need to sit down and sequence it.
came about randomly. somewhat off kilter drums. we'll see what happens. this is what i get for reading about sub-bass and not studying for my spanish final.
to add to the total coincidence that has been my LL Cool J week, the man himself was on the Northeastern campus today while taking a tour with his daughter. i saw him walking away as I came out of Shillman. good times. we bonded.
so yesterday i was sitting in my spanish class and for some reason my mind gravitated towards the LL Cool J song "Doin' It." i don't know why, but for some reason this song popped into my head and i couldn't get it out. later that day, i was doing my radio show and didn't have my laptop or normal music with me. i decided to just grab random 12'' vinyl LPs from our music library and play random songs for 2 hours. much to my surprise, i stumble upon the radio edit of this song and made sure to blast it. i also like that if you slowed this beat down now, it would probably make an awesome dubstep song.
i've been rocking Matthew Dear's "Body Language" mix all morning. the first time i heard it, this track immediately jumped out at me, slapped me in the face and wouldn't let me go. something about it is just so hypnotizing. i love the random little elements that pop in and out as the beat steadily keeps going, like its ignoring everything else around it.
also i noticed that pretty much every person on facebook has some status about how they wrote a 30 page paper in 10 minutes or something because its finals week. no one cares.
today i bought music for the first time in a while (well i buy singles off beatport every once in a while if that counts). picked up the following:
Shed - Shedding the Past Nigeria 70 - The Definitive Story of 1970s Funky Lagos Clark - Growls Garden EP
i was surprised to find a new Clark EP since i had no idea he had something coming out. i'm a big fan of his stuff but i feel like he's really unappreciated and people just never talk about him. apparently this new EP has vocals and is more dance floor-esque? i havent listened to it yet but who knows...
i dj with my friend andy around boston. we wreck basements. we sometimes mix two songs together without messing up. we do a weekly night at the savant project on mission hill. allan yu made us a poster. big ups to allan yu.
i figured i should document this whole process. i am making an EP. it's called "Everything Gets Ruined" and i hope to have it out by september at the latest. i may use this place to post random demos or just to rant and post music i'm into. i have one track officially done. i am working on 4-6 more and will cull down from there. i started a new banger tuesday morning at 3am. it's called "Nest" and i really like it.
things i've been into lately or that have inspired me:
The song and the video are pretty sweet. I don't know much about skating but a friend showed us the intro and it ruled.
